Whitby Abbey reopens
Whitby Abbey reopened to the public on 10th April, following a £1.6 million renovation. The completed work has resulted in more space, improved access and enhanced facilities for visitors.
The ruins of Whitby Abbey have been inspiring literary figures for centuries, and enjoy sweeping views over the town and surrounding coastline.
Visitors can now enjoy improved landscaping around the abbey, with better access routes and carefully tended green areas, as well as extra seating in the courtyard. A new café and a more spacious gift shop also improve the experience for groups.
In terms of the abbey itself, there is a fascinating new permanent exhibition area, as well as the addition of an interactive experience – The Ammonite Quest – which explores 3,000 years of history at the site.
